Bohemian style from Rococo
Do you like fashions with a vintage or bohemian edge? If so, check out Rococo in Cross Street. Its designer collections can be mixed and matched with other styles to create stunning individual looks. This season knitwear features prominently and comes in wonderful shades of purple, green, brown and black. The ballet wrap cardi is elegant and multifunctional. A particularly fetching one by Chine comes embellished with rich embroidery peacock feathers. Danish label Noa Noa features some wonderful winter coats, jackets and separates. Skirts and dresses predominate with trousers taking a back seat. Body skimming long dresses by Shirt Passion are perfect for work or after-six. There is a Byzantine feel to Rutzou's jacket and skirt collection which boast rich ornamentation. The Hoss Homeless label mixes understatement with lavish embellishment. A percentage of its profits go to the homeless so you can dress to impress knowing that you are helping others.

Banish oily skin
For most women oily skin is just an unpleasant recollection of their teenage years and the trials associated with puberty. However, for a number of unlucky others - one in 10 - it is a daily nightmare. These women suffer from excessive shine, dilated pores and blackheads, a dull complexion and uneven skin texture, all the result of the over production of sebum. Now Lancome has created a new product for oily skin which is suitable for people of all ages. Pure Focus is described as a complete, innovative range designed to act on the root of the problem. The makers claim it leaves the skin totally transformed, fresh and light and long lastingly matte. "This innovation uses micro captors which are so tiny (smaller than the diameter of a pore) they can go as deeply as possible into the pores and absorb excess sebum. These are combined with a blend of active purifying agents to lastingly treat the unpleasant effects of sebum on skin in a triple action effect."

The product range includes a cleansing gel (20.50), a purifying lotion (18.50), a mattifying gel (27.50) and an anti-ageing treatment (48.50). * Local Lancome stockists include Brown Thomas, Matt O'Flaherty's, Feeley's of Tuam and Flanagan's of Ballinasloe.

Surviving the big night out
The new year may have passed but if you are still partying with a vengeance then you may need a little cosmetic help to ensure you look good in 2005. Tired puffy eyes are often a legacy of too many late nights or perish the thought going to sleep without removing your make-up! A new instant eye mask from Guinot (32.75) known as Masque Yeux promises to provide quick, calming relief. The gel mask is non-setting and contains plant extracts to improve circulation. Horse chestnut and witch hazel help to decongest capillary network around the eyes, reducing puffiness and under-eye shadows. Another indispensable party tool is Mini-Lift Eclat Beaute Serum (instant radiance vials 15). This contains witch hazel and has setting and lifting properties to help keep make-up in place all night long. Apply it over day cream and wait five minutes before applying make-up. For last minute outbreaks of blemishes and spots, try Masque Pour Equilibre (26 for a 50m tube). This is a seaweed and Vitamin B based mask which claims to re-balance and detoxify the skin. It can be used in three ways - (1) apply thickly over the face and neck to balance oily skin (2) apply locally to clear spots and blemishes - leave on overnight or as long as possible (3) use as an exfoliant on the back, elbows or knees to soften skin. Available from local supermarkets and pharmacies it includes the Original range which provides a moisturising boost for long lasting hydration, an Oxygenating product which purifies and re-balances combination skin and a Remineralising range which soothes and nourishes dry and sensitive skin.
