Teachers Conference on Irish
A SPECIAL conference to d i s c u s s t h e p r o b l e m s of t e a c h e r s in I r i s h l a n g u a g e p o s t p r i m a r y s c h o o l s will b e held in G a l w a y f r o m F r i day, 30th O c t o b e r r.ntil S u n d a y 1st N o v e m b e r . T h e conference aims to exam ine t h e p o s i t i o n of I r i s h s p e a k i n g s c h o o l s , t o co ordinate activities and to create a s t r u c t u r e to assist these aims. T h e c o n f e r e n c e will b e open to teachers and man a g e r s of a l l I r i s h l a n g u a g e p o s t p r i m a r y schools. The m a i n l e c t u r e of t h e con f e r e n c e , w h i c h will b e op e n t o t h e p u b l i c , will b e g i v e n b y P r o f e s s o r J a c L. W i l l i a m s , D e a n of t h e F a c u l t y of E d u c a t i o n , U n i v e r sity of W a l e s , A b e r y s t w y t h . H i s l e c t u r e , " P r o b l e m s of a M i n o r i t y L a n g u a g e in Education," will be in English. It will be held in Colaiste Iognaid, Galway, o n S a t u r d a y , 31st O c t o b e r a t 8.00 p.m. Teachers who wish to attend this conference should register with Padr a i g O C a i r b r e , S.J., Col aiste Iognaid, Galway. T h e D e p a r t m e n t of E d u c a t i o n has agreed to pay a main tenance supplement and t r a v e l l i n g e x p e n s e s of r e cognised teachers attending the conference.
