Hope Of An Alternative Govern ment - says Mc Cormack.
Senator Padraig Mc Cormack has shaken over 10,000 hands since he laun ched his election cam paign. Some were firm, others limp, but most were warm and welcoming. The Renmore lifestock auctioneer feels there is a strong swing away from Fianna Fail right now. People are suspicious of the Government's motives in calling a General Elec tion, he says. They are concerned at the health cuts, emigration, the rod licence dispute and the housing situation, he maintains. "No local Authority houses have been built in the city in the last two years and private proper ty is so expensive. It is very difficult for couples to buy their own houses." Senator Mc Cormack continues "The conditions in our local hospitals are appalling as anyone with a relative in hospital or parents of children seeking orthodontic treatment will tell you. No longer is an ap pendix considered an emergency. On the doorsteps, people are ex pressing grave concern at the health cuts, and their disillusionment with Charles Haughey's party.

Political Breakthrough
Senator Mc Cormack lived in Athenry for 15 years before moving to Renmore. He has been working with the Galway marts since 1965."I was always interested in politics. I first got involv ed while living in Athenry in 1965. I joined the local F.G. branch and became Chairman of the Consti tuency Executive. I later stood for the Co. Council and was elected." His childhood ambition was to become a politician. He has been attending the Fine Gael Ard Fheis in Dublin since he was twelve. He listened and watched the politicians and prayed that he would be up there on a platform some day, with the best of them. In 1985, when Galway ci ty became a Borough,
