MUSK HPSTMtt: THURSDAY. FBHMY, SATURDAY

Next Thursday is the op portunity for the entire electorate to show how they fell, And because this is the only real chance most citizens get to do so( being an activist is left to the few), it is vital for everybody who can to vote. Abstension shows nothing, but contempt for the system of democracy in this country, which is much fairer and more represenative than certain other forms of democracy (PR is a very effective, though complex way of distributing all the votes). It shows contempt for all the people who do work very hard for the people they represent. And it shows contempt for the people who worked and fought for democracy in this country. If you absolutely have no desire to see any candidate elected- spoil your voting paper. It shows a preference and gives an in dication of your disatisfaction. With sufficient reac tion, the representation of the people of Galway West in the Dail can be chang ed...if enough people are happy with the job being done, we will leave the goverment in power. But, there must be a full tur nout to vote(whatever way). Unless there is at> solutely no way you can get to vote, you must show your faith in the Republic - abstention is a rejection of the constitution. Maybe you would not sit in the street to be rolled over by armoured person nel carriers for the right to free speech. Maybe you would not volunteer to go on hunger strike or burn yourself to death to show how much you value the right to tick a box. You do not have to. As a citizen of the Irish Republic, you have these rights. Make sure of your own future!
