Tourism is one of Galway's most important sources of income. We are fortunate that we have all the components that go to make a good holiday. We have a City full of oldworld charm with a broad spread of accommodation. We are conscious of the value of visitor-spending in Galway and of its multiplier effect on the whole community. Our inner-city is being redeveloped rapidly, and our local authorities have seen to it that all new development must blend in perfectly and in total harmony with their surroundings. We are delighted that Boston is bringing North and South together. One of the recent links between Galway and Deny was forged when the New Ireland Forum was established in 1983. The President of University College Galway chaired the Forum and its Standing Committee which, in addition, has as members Charles Haugbey, Garret Fitzgerald, Dick Spring and John Hume. THE SPIRIT OF GALWAY

TAOISEACH WELCOMES GALWAY DERRY BOSTON LINK
A special statement to the Galway Advertiser from An Taoiseach to mark the historical link between the three cities. During the past thirty years, the American contribution to the Irish economy has been very significent and contributed much to the development of modern industry and tourism. I welcome very much this latest link between Galway and Derry and Boston, one of the fastest developing cities in the United States Galway is now one of the premier industrial centres of Ireland with a balanced and complementary mix of traditional service industries alongside high technology enterprises, both domestic and international. It has experience of partnerships with the outside world. Galway city's links stretch over the centuries to the days when Galway was an important European trading centre. Today, its industrial base includes a whole range of overseas companies such as Thermo King, Crown Control and Beckman Instruments. I am pleased to see the Boston link incorporating cities from both north and south, by including the city of Deny. Both cities have much to offer by way of culture, tourism and potential for many commercial developments. Ireland is, of course, ideally placed as a gateway to the large European market as the large number of existing U.S. companies in Ireland demonstrates. The spirit of local enterprise in both Galway and Derry is shown very clearly by the number of people travelling to Boston and the number of exhibits which will be on show. When I was in Boston recently, I found great interest in the Exhibition and I am sure that it will be well received. I would like to express appreciation of the efforts of Mayor Flynn of Boston in promoting this project through the establishment of Galway-Boston Ventures Ltd. and DerryBoston Venture Ltd. on the Irish side. I am sure that the initiative will improve further the links between our two countries and lead to new business ventures, which will benefit our peoples. / am very pleased to be associated with this venture and I wish it every success.

Ralph O'Gorman Ralph O'Gorman, Secretary of the recently formed Galway Boston Venturers Ltd. and director of the exhibition. Mr. O'Gorman has been secuded from Udaras na Gaeltachta, where he works as a Marketing Executive with extensive knowledge of the U.S. business scene, to Galway Chamber of Commerce. Mr. O'Gorman has rganised the 'Galway Comes to Boston' exhibition and it is understood that there are plans in the pipeline for future Galway exhibitions in London and Germany.

Why Galway is Going To Boston
Galway Boston Ventures Ltd. -- a name Galwegians will become very familiar with in the coming years, grew from the realisation that as a City we have got to go out in the world and take our own opportunities. The move was spearheaded by former Chamber of Commerce President Tom O'Connor who went to Boston last year, not with cap in hand, but as leader of a vibrant and growing business city. Boston was the obvious choice. Not only is Boston regarded as the most successful and prosperous city in America with vitually no unemployment, but it has a unique leadership in Mayor Ray Flynn who has close family ties with the West of Ireland and a positive interest in Galway. The Galway Chamber of Commerce is fully aware that actual job employment prospects to a large extent must be developed at local level. Boston City has been more than welcoming to Galway. The joint exhibition of Galway and Deny at Boston's world Trade Fair from May 26th to May 28th is seen as a stepping stone to further co operation and opportunity. Galway Boston Ventures Ltd. aim to pro--ott trade and industry between the two dries, to develop the dote ethnic, cultural, and
