Clarification
The Chamber of Com merce have clarified their position following a story of the front page of this newspaper last week. They wish to point out that as so many of their members are dependent on Tourism for their livelihood it is natural they would wish to supplement the efforts of Ireland West and Bord Failte. The published report concerned the efforts of a Tourism Committee set up two years ago. The committee looks forward to working with Ireland West. The headline was the licence of the hard pressed Editor !

The new Philips Softone gives as much light as an ordinary light bulb, but with none of the harsh piercing glare. With its unique shape and special internal coating it spreads a warm gentle light enhancing its surroundings to create a more relaxed atmosphere Why not talk to the Philips Lighting Consultant at

Open Weekend, Friday/Monday (Oct. 2 3 / 2 6 ) . Last week I mentioned some forthcoming amendments to the Rules of Golf coming into force on January 1st next. One I forgot to mention was that relating to a ball overhanging the hole. The new rule will state that if a ball overhanging the hole fails to drop after the player has reached the hole without unreasonable delay plus an additional ten seconds to determine whether the ball is at rest -- if after that the ball falls into the hole, then you must add a penalty stroke. Anyone know where there is a sale of stopwatches ? ! A few weeks ago, 1 spent a most enjoyable week's golf at Watervilie. It is remarkable what one hears when one listens to others ! Three 'overheard" remarks which I particularly like all referred to or were uttered by Americans: (a) "The four in front were as slow as molasses in January", (b) "Pimples and golf have taught me to be humble", (c) " I f you catch up with those three ass-holes from L o s Angeles, just drive through them".
