Connacht Schools Disappoint I had looked forward eagerly to the clash of the Connacht Schools versus the full Ulster Schools side during the Christmas holidays. The schools champions Ulster, were a very big strong side and played with great confidence, yet it was the second half before they ran up their big score of 44 points to Connacht's 6 points, scoring five tries in the last quarter of the game. Connacht were trailing 14 pts. to nil at the break, when winger Kevin Flynn scored an oppor tunist try converted by Eric Elwood, on the restart, that gave us all great encouragement on the very cold day at the Sportsground. This was the onfely score we could manage, and from there on it was one way traffic for the Ulster boys who scored a total of eight lovely tries in the process. The transition back to full interpros level would have been a lot easier had we a good result in this game. I imagine it's back to the drawing board, for the schools powers that be, to make the all important decision. Interchange Referees This Saturday the Galwegianv. Monks town and the Corinthian v. Clontarf games will be refereed by J. McGomery and David Harkness respectively from the U l s t e r Society of Referees. Ireland's W o r l d Cup Ireland was the last of 16 teams to enter for the World Cup series that takes place in New Zealand next May and June. The teams are divided into 4 teams in 4 sections. Ireland play in Pool 2 and the following is the draw:-- May 25: Wales v. Ireland. May 30: Canada v. Ire land. June 3: Tonga v. Ire land. The top two teams qualify for the next round to be at Sydney on June 6th. It is expected that Wales and Ireland will be the top two from Pool 2 and then the quarter final matches will be against the winners and runnersup in Pool 1 which should be England and Australia. It's not a bad set up at all for Ireland and wc will have a good interest in May and June in the new World Cup series. Galway City Gym W e w e r e all so disappointed recently
