whole project was complete, without any closure of the original smaller premises which occupied a part of the site. The original premises was also totally refurbished and the most modern airconditioning and heating equipment was added to all parts of the complex to ensure all possible comforts for the shopper, regardless of climatic fluctuations. At the entrance to the new complex, a wide Shopping Mall provides access to Dunnes Stores which has a total area of 60,000 sq. ft. Natural lighting to the Shopping mall is provided through the overhead barrel vaulted roof made from rolled steel ribs supporting twin wall Thermo clear roof glazing. The development also encompasses seven shop units belonging to Westport Developments. These units have been fitted out to the highest standard and feature classic old style shop fronts, which give the centre an air of elegance, so often lacking in modern commercial developments. The Centre also has the added benefit of An Allied Irish Bank "Banking" machine -- yet another convenience for the shopper to enjoy. Said the Managing Director of Westport Developments Mr. Michael Conway "I am very proud of this Development which was carried out in record time despite difficulties. The New Shopping Centre will be of great benefit to the Consumers of Galway and the surrounding areas and I wish Dunnes Stores every success". "I would like to express my thanks to all those who contributed to the successful completion of the project including the Architect Mr. Peter Stevens for his impressive design, the Sub-Contractors for their highly-efficient performance and, of course, to the foreman and work-force of Westport Developments. They were without doubt the finest team of workers I have seen and the quality of their workmanship is evident for all to see". "Finally a special word of thanks to the Executive Personnel of Dunnes Stores Ltd. and the Management and Staff of Dunnes Stores Ltd., Terryland for their cooperation throughout this project".
