Galway Advertiser, and once I knew they were not going to be there, well, there didn't seem to be the same draw. Maybe next year, Peggy. The head of the river was a great spectacular, and a new record with more crews taking part than ever before. The winners of the mens event were Neptune from Dublin, and the oarspersons' event was won by the ladies from Queens University, Belfast. The great thing was, of course, that the weather held and made the whole event such a success. Fair play to Tribesmen for organising the event and fair play to their faithful sponsors who made it possible for them to d o it. Particularly the men and ladies of Digital, who provided the split second timing of all events. I hope that ye all managed to escape the dreaded flu that laid yeer Uncle Dicky low last week. Talk about pains in the joints and the muscles, not to mention the sniffles and the sneezes, coughing and spluttering. 1 finally gave up trying to ride it out and took to the bed. It's yer only man in the end. I'm still sniffling a bit and using the cough to force myself to have a hot toddy, apart from that, the worst is past. Mind yeer selves and take to the bed if ye feel bad. G o o d people are getting scarcer every week. I had a note from Mary Gorman to tell me that there is going to be a Coffee Morning and Cake Sale held in the Galway Lawn Tennis Club next Sunday morning from 11am until 1.30pm, the proceeds of which are going to the Galway Branch of the National Council For The Blind and the Simon Community, Galway. If yeer looking for a way to pass a few hours on Sunday morning, why not toddle along and buy a cake or some such and help these two good causes. Tell them I sent ye and ye'll be alright. God l o v e y e for another week, babies. Dick Byrne.

POLISH COAL

W E L L then, I expect that ye all struggled through St. Paddy's Day without too much trouble. I'm afraid that I didn't get to town to see yeer parade, but, sure without the bold and beautiful Peggy Carty and her little 'uns it wouldn't have been the same. It couldn't have been the same, since I have seen two or three generations of dancers march through the city with Peggy at their head,
