New Honda Civic breaks cover at Frankfurt

2006. The exciting styling and clever packaging of this eighth generation Civic is indicative of Honda's desire to revolutionalise the market, making other cars look outdated. As seen in the concept car at the Geneva Motor Show earlier this year, Honda has achieved distinctive styling, in addition to dynamic performance, safety, and environmental features. The launch of the new Civic takes the range into a sporty direction with a more engaging driving experience. The dynamic wedge-shaped car-forward design is a key element and, although shorter, wider, and lower than its predecessor, flexibility and packaging are not compromised. The new range will come with a choice of engines. A new 1.8-litre iVTEC unit, which employs an enhanced version of Honda's award winning iVTEC, was designed specifically for the Civic. It promises fuel economy on a par with that of a 1.5-litre engine with off-the-line acceleration equivalent to that of a 2.0-litre . In addition, a 1.4 i-DSI (intelligent-dual and sequential ignition) unit producing no more than 143g/km of CO2 will also be available. All engines are equipped with a six-speed manual gearbox, making the new Honda Civic the

first car in the C segment to be equipped with sixspeed gearboxes across the range. Honda expects the Civic to achieve five stars for front and side impact safety, three stars for pedestrian safety, and four stars for child protection safety. In addition all models will be equipped

with vehicle stability assist. "The launch of the new eighth generation Civic later this year will be exciting and promises to set standards in the C segment. In common with the introduction of the current Accord range, the new Civic is an expression of Honda's corporate

policy to produce cars which target the premium sector of their respective segments," according to Universal Honda's sales and marketing director, Frank Kennedy. Full details of the new Civic for Ireland will be unveiled towards the end of the year at the national launch.
