"Dingoes" on Rampage in City !
High hopes for the provision of a d o g p o u n d in Galway were dealt a crippling blow this w e e k . Assistant County Manager Mr. P e t e r K e a r n s told a r e c e n t m e e t i n g of G a l w a y Borough Council that no provision h a s b e e n m a d e in the Estimates for the s e t t i n g u p of a d o g ' s h o m e in t h e City. In reply t o a q u e r y from Mervue Cllr. Bridie O'Flaherty, Mr. Kearns elucidated that the C o r p o r a t i o n h a s a site, a plan b u t n o m o n e y t o develop the home for strays. An e x a s p e r a t e d Cllr. Bridie s t r e s s e d t h a t "wild dingoes are roaming the s t r e e t s of G a l w a y " a n d t h e City is gradually b e i n g o v e r r u n by s t r a y s , s h e added. "In t h e n a m e of t h e twelve a p o s t l e s w h e n a r e w e going t o s e e a d o g ' s h o m e in G a l w a y ? d e m a n d e d Cllr. O ' F l a h e r t y . Cllr. Tom Browne pointed out that diseased dogs are on the rampage a n d h e w a n t e d to k n o w who has the authority to put those dogs down. Aid. F i n t a n C o o g a n h a d t h e ' l a s t w o r d s of w i s d o m when h e claimed that G a l w a y w a s well a n d truly gone to the dogs.
