GALWAY'S NEW PRESIDENT What was described as a "keenly fought but enjoyably contested" Election Campaign was battled for the controlling committee of the Galway Junior Cha mber last week. Emer ging as a victor and this year's president was Mr Oliver Sammon. Mr. Sammon has started immediat ely to plan activities for 1971/72. Starting next mo nth there is a special Gol fing Week to collect funds for the Night Shelter for men, soon to be built in the city. In September the Ju nior Chamber are organis ing a "go kart" competi tion. Mr. Sammon is parti cularly concerned with the drug problem in Galway and is determined to have a survey carried out to seo what exactly is the po sition of drug abuse in our city. Salthill Ladies Outing
CELINE GOES TO SWITZERLAND Celine Hession, Salthill, will fly out to Switzerland this week for eight days to represent British Televis ion at the World Colour Television Exhibition whi ch will be held in Montreaux, Switzerland. Celine will be performing many of her Irish dances in six different colourful costu mes to her large audience through the media of col our television. Surely this will be a great advertise ment to Irish dancing. Cel ine was selected after an audition held in London on Sunday last and her many appearances on Telefis Eireann added to her success. Chosen with her was anot her Irish girl, Bernadette Gallagher who presented the Eurovision song con test. IT'S A FACT ! Big Day Out
