Getting in on Film
The Galway Camera Club has been in existence, in its present form, for five years now and it is growing s t e a d i l y in terms of membership a n d its involvement with the photographic arts generally. The Club recently held its Annual General Meeting and the Committee for 1980/81 are; Michael Kelly, Chairman; May Prendergast, Vice Chairperson; Eileen Holland, Hon. Secretary; Mary Flynn, Treasurer and Jack Totman, P.R.O. Other committee members are A l i c e B e a s l e y , Sean McGrath, Tadhg Keady, Martain O'Malley and Des Toal. The aims of the Club are basically to promote all forms of photographic interests, from the very beginner to the sophistication of audio/visual shows on specialised topics. But, as Jack Totman the P.R.O. points out, the Club is quite often misrepresented by people who feel that it may

be all too far advanced for them and therefore they are very reluctant to come along and (pardon the pun) expose their limited knowledge on the subject. In fact, he says that over half of the members are not involved in the processing of their photographs and many of them are producing beautiful pictures with very basic equipment. The Club are currently running a beginners course on a regular weekly basis. Nevertheless, for those who prefer the more a d v a n c e d a s p e c t s of photography, there are many opportunities to show off

their photographic prowess through the medium of exhibitions, club competitions and audio/visual presentations on such topics as Aran, Innisboffin and Abbeyknockmoy which is being produced in association with an Taisce. Anyone wishing to join in the Clubs activities are most welcome any Thursday evening, of if they prefer they can obtain information through the P.R.O. Jack Totman at 5 Snipe Lawn, Newcastle or phome 21448, or go along to Room 221, New Science Building, U.C.G. every Thursday.
