Howdy folks. As you can well imagine I had a great laugh when I heard that I was to get a chance to write this column. A sort of keep-it-in-the-family affair. I thought "Oh great, a chance to stand in dear ol Dad's boots." (although if I keep growing at the same rate, and in the same direction as I am now it'll be more than his boots I' fill). Then the feeling of immense power came over me. I looked down threateningly on everybody, a wicked gleam in my eye. "Right now who was going to be my first victim? " Here I stood, writer of one of the most powerful columns in local newspaper, with the power to ruin people for life with just a stroke of the pen. Who was I going to slat? The Corpo, th E.S.B. or ( s n i g g e r ) the Traffic Wardens? No. It's not nice to steal other peoples' material. I decided to wait awhile, and see how things went. Once the word got around, things started happening. All my friends started to get worried anytime they caught me looking at them. Teachers started smiling at me for no apparent reason. Yes, the power was there alright. But, then I started to get worried. It all seemed too easy. "Now lets think this out" I said to myself. "How does it work. My father gets away with it every week, is there any reason why I shouldn't? " Then it hit me! "That's the catch" I thought "01' paw has a column in the paper every w e e k . If someone has a go at him, he can get them back the next week. But my attempt is a once off affair. I have no instrument of revenge". So

far now I will go easy, but my day will come, mark my words! Little chief Byrne has spoken! ! ! Before I sign off I'd like to tell you about a situation which arose in school the other day. A friend of mine decided to take an afternoon off school to browse around the town. Unfortunately for him he was seen by a teacher who had missed him. When the teacher asked him why he refrained from turning up, he said "Well, it was 2.00 p.m. when I had finished my dinner, and I thought that if I came back to school late I'd get into trouble! i Bye now, Richard Byrne, 17yrs. Jesuit College.

....it is strange that the origin of the famous and mysterious word Cocktail as a term for a mixed drink cannot precisely be settled. Mixed drinks have been drunk since the dawn of civilisation. Some claim that the first recipe for a cocktail was lemon juice and powdered adders, praised by the Emperor Commodius in the second century as a fine aperitif!.... Come along to the Claddagh Room Cocktail Bar and have Miss Fox mix you one of her more 'potent' aperitifs...you'll like the view, and who knows....you may even go higher! /
