Secretary of the Co. Galway Branch, Irish Hotels Federation for 6 years; active member of the Heart of Galway Company; Director of Regional Investment Trust and of Regional Tourism Investment Trust. BYRNE, MARY Mary was educated at Presentation Convent and Dominican Convent, Galway. She works as Casualty Sister in Galway Regional Hospital. She is a member of the Western Health Board, of the Irish Nurses Organisation, Executive and Chairperson of the Galway Branch of the organisation. She is a member and past President of the Past Pupils' Union of Presentation Convent and President of the Variety Club of Ireland, Galway Branch, Ladies Committee. She was the first woman in the history of Galway to become Mayor and held the office during the year 1975-76. DEMPSEY, PADDY Paddy is a native of Turloughmore, is married to Marie Boyle of Claregalway and is active in Fianna Fail since 1965. He was narrowly beaten in the 1974 election and was subsequently co-opted to the County Council seat vacated by Minister for Defence, Robert Molloy, T.D. He is a member of the Health Committee, the R.D.O., and the Itinerant Committee of Galway County Council. He has worked as an Insurance Inspector, Auctioneer and Farmer. His grand-uncle, the late John Concar of Bellville, was a member of the first Galway County Council under native rule. CONNOLLY, MARTIN Martin is a member of a wellknown City family. Educated by the Patrician Brothers, he began his working life as a carpenter with Irish Shipping. For the past twenty-one years he has been employed as a general foreman/site manager. He was a foundermember of the Claddagh Sailing C l u b and St. D o m i n i c ' s Badminton Club. During the past six years he has been a member of the local Parish Council and was chairman for four years. In 1977, he was instrumental in organising the campaign to clean up the Claddagh Basin. At present, he is deeply involved in the construction of a local community centre. A life-long member of the Fianna Fall Party, he is past chairman of the Claddagh Cumann. MULL AN, MAI READ MaSre'ad is a housewife with 5 children and lives at Newcastle for the past ten years. She is ViceChairman of the Cathedral Fianna Fail Cumann. She has been actively involved in local associations, being a foundermember of the Newcastle and District Residents' Association and St. Anthony's Club. She was actively involved with the adoption of the Newcastle-Shantalla Plan. She was active in the Ladies Fund Raising Committee of St. Francis' Old Folk's Home and is an active member of St. Joseph's College Ladies Fund Raising Committee. She is a member of An Taisce and the Galway Garden Club. DONNELLAN, SEAN Sean is a native of Oughterard and has been a member of Galway County Council since 1955. He is currently Vice-Chairman of Galway County Council and actively involved in the Board of Management of Clifden Com munity School, the Council of Galway Regional Technical College and Galway County Vocational Committee. He is well known as a principal teacher of Loughwell and Tullykyne National Schools and has taught at Newtown National School during the past year. He is a former Captain of Oughterard G.A.A. and member of the Galway Senior Football team. KENNY, FRANK Frank is a native of Rinnaknock, Ower, Headford. He is a member of the Galway County. Committee of Agriculture since 1976 and is deeply interested in the welfare of the small farmer in Galway and the West of Ireland. He is a member of Headford Angling Club and of the Headford Sub-Committee for Old Age Pensioners. He is married with three children and is a former Chairman of Lakeside Fianna Fail Cumann. O'FLAHERTY, BRIDIE Bridie is a housewife, and was first elected to Galway Corporation in 1974. She is a founder member and past chairman of Mervue Residents' Association and Mervue/Renmore Ladies' Social Club. As a Councillor she is deeply interested in all sections of the community. MOLLOY, GERALD Gerald is a brother of Robert Molloy, T.D., Minister for Defence. He is married with seven children and is Managing Director of the family wholesale drapery business. He is a founder member of the Galway Lions Club of which he is now President elect. He is a keen sportsman, a member of Galway Golf Club and has represented Galway and Connacht at senior and junior level. He is actively involved in other community activities and is firmly committed to the future growth and development of Galway as a major port and city. O'HIGGINS, MICHEAL Michcal was educated at Scoil Fhursa, St. Ignatius College, Franciscan College, Gormanstown, and graduated from U.CG. with a B Comm. degree. He is Managing Director of T. O'Higgins, Co. Ltd., Shantalla. He was Mayor of Galway in 1972-73. He is a member of Galway Corporation since 1964, a member of the Vocational Education Committee since 1965 and of the Governing Body of U.CG. since 1967. He is a former Captain of Galway Golf Club and a founder member of the Social Service Council.

LEAHY, MICHAEL Michael is a CLE. employee, lives at Renmore, is married and has four schoolgoing children. He was narrowly defeated when he contested the Corporation election in 1974. His deep interest in the welfare of the community is e v i d e n c e d by his a c t i v e membership of many voluntary and community associations. A trade unionist, he is a former chairman of the Galway Branch of his union (T.S.A.A.). He is a former chairman of Renmore Fianna Trail Cumann.

MOLLOY, JOHN John is a member of Galway County Council since 1970. His father, the late Brian Molloy, was one of the leaders of the 1916 rebellion in County Galway. He is on the Boards of the following Committees: Galway Harbour Commissioners, Western Health Board, Libraries, and Agriculture. He is a member of the General Council of County Councils. He is well known as one of Galway's finest hurlers. He captained the Galway hurling team to win the National Hurling League title in 1951. He is a committee-member of the recently formed Galway Past Hurlers' Association. As a former Chairman of the Parish Hurling Club, he spearheaded the purchase of Castlegar G.A.A. sportsground. He is Chairman of Castlegar Athletic Club.

O'HIGGINS, MICHEAL (same as Corporation)

O'CONNOR, HENRY Henry is a native of St. Bridget's Terrace, Bohermore. Aged 33, he went to school at the Mercy Convent, St. Patrick's N.S., St. Joseph's College and graduated from University College, Galway, with a B.A. degree and a Higher Diploma in Education in 1972. He founded Essential Cleaning Services in 1968 and is Managing Director. He is proprietor of the Castle Hotel, Abbeygate St., and the Arch Shopping Arcade. He was narrowly defeated when he contested the Corporation election in 1974. His many community activities include Chairman of Fr. Griffin's G.A.A. Football Club, Treasurer of Corinthians R F C , and founder-member of the Pearse Athletic Club in Galway. Chairman of St. Patrick's Fianna Fail Cumann and Chairman of St. Patrick's Parish Council.

O NEACHTA1N, SEAN Sean is a native of Spiddal, Co. Galway. He was educated at St. Michael's N.S., Spiddal, St. Joseph's College, Galway, and University College, Galway, where he graduated with a B.A. degree and Higher Diploma in Education. He is a teacher at St. Joseph's College, Galway, since 1971 and Headmaster in Colaiste Chonnacht He is Chairman of Spiddal 1974. He represented the winners, Galway, in the 1979 All-Ireland Scor finals in Dublin.
