Still Buzzing Many calls are coming to me regarding the visit of Mayor Gerry Colgan and most agree that the Mayor was a typical good ambas sador for Galway wherever he went or with whomever he came in contact with. The "Rosie O'Grady" party which was televised on the big night was seen on Channel 13 this past Friday. -Of course I learned of the programme too late. The interviews by Margie McGurk and Martin Costello came over well last Saturday and Sunday on Radio Station WEVD. 1 had a letter from Atlanta Hotel (Josie Owens) and it's always nice to receive mail from friends who enjoyed the visit to New York. We try very hard here in the Big Apple to make our West of Ireland friends feel at home. As a matter of fact I'm always happy to meet friends from Ireland, and especially my home town of Galway. So glad to learn that Mae Sedwards, the former Prin cipal of Scoil Fnursa at Nile Lodge is fully recovered from her bout of sickness. The nice lady has one of the most beautiful guesthouses in Galway. always smothered in flowers, at St. Mary's Road. Mr. (.alio of the Mansfield Band in Boston is really making great preparations for the visit of the big band from Mansfield to Ireland. They will spend some time in Galway city too this coming August. Mr. Gallo tells me that he is well known in Galway area. Many here are excited about the opening of the Bank of Ireland branch on Fifth Avenue. It is hoped that the bank will be open for business in the very near future. This writer knows of many who will avail of the opportunity to bank with the Bank of Ireland group. Big Success Reports from a number of bars and restaurants here in New York is that St. Patrick's Day and night was the biggest

financial success ever in the history of St. Patrick's Day in New York. Perhaps the mayor of Galway brought the good weather with him for the big day. An estimated one million people lined Fifth Avenue for the big parade--this is the official figure given this week. Can't wait to meet this group from St. Louis. At present we are sending out plenty of info for the group who will invade Galway this coming September and with a little luck this writer will be there also. Deputy Commissioner's Visit The Deputy Commissioner of the Motor Vehicle Bureau of New York will again visit Ireland this coming Summer and will be accompanied by his wife. The Deputy Com missioner fell in love with Galway three years ago when he visited there. He hopes to spend a little more time this year. Richard is a frequent visitor to this writer. He's a real good friend and loves his Irish heritage. Friend During the visit here of Ray Rooney which was quite successful, and a lot of work went into the visit of Ray and Pat Kearney of Limerick and J. P. Ryan. These three made the best of every opportunity to attend all of the dinners and parties where tickets were available. However they were anxious to attend the Kerrymen's annual banquet but tickets were sold out. Ray, of course, called me in despera tion and 1 told him to call John (Kerry) O'Donnell and mention that 1 requested that perhaps he could oblige . . . The next 1 knew was that Ray and his friends were sitting at the John O'Donnell table with Mrs. O'Donnell and it was one of the best affairs the three attended while in New York. Spring Is Here Today the temperature in New York reached 80F., a record for this year. And of course to go with this we have the circus at Madison Square Garden. The opening day of the circus, was threatened because of a musicians'strike! However, the children were dclighted.it was "on with the show." Both old and young children flocked to the Garden for the big top. Willy Fahy.

Galway On National Parent Body
Several delegates from Co. Galway attended the first annual general meeting of the Congress of Catholic Secon dary School Parent Associa tions (CSPA) held in Dublin last week. Mr. Tadhg O Briain and Mr. Con Murphy, both of Salthill, were elected to the National Executive Com mittee of the Congress, where they will represent the regional council of secondary school parent associations in Galway city and county. The general meeting came just one year after the NOVENA TO THE MOTHER OF GOOD COUNSEL The annual Novena to the Mother of Good Counsel will begin in St. Augustine's Church on Sunday, 17th formation of an interim steering committee to launch the new organisation, design ed to provide a voice for parents of pupils attending the country's 500 Catholic volun tary secondary schools. The steering committee in its report to the general meeting indicated that elected parent associations had now been set up in about two-thirds of these, schools, and that 14 regional councils had been established to co-ordinate the work of these associations, and to encourage them in developing work programmes April, at the 7.30 Mass. Devotions each evening will consist of Rosary, sermon, Novena prayers and Holy Mass at 7.30 p.m. Rev. John Meagher, O S . A., Prior of St. Augustine's, Fethard, Co. Tipperary will be the preacher.

They are, back row: (left to right) Dick Owens, Paddy Long, Joe Whelan, Ned Walsh, Michael Browne and Michael Conroy. Middle row: Eddie O'Shea, Bill Walsh, Mick Keane (Captain), Jack Talbot and Tom Talbot. In front are Jack O'Neill and Paddy Walsh. This club had no clubhouse but the Old Malt and the Atlanta could be described as 'hangouts'. Galway Rovers are currently seeking admission to the League of Ireland and have high hopes of being the first Galway side to become a member. Thirteen of the fourteen League of Ireland clubs have already voted for them but they have to wait until the A.G.M. in June before it becomes absolutely official. They are not hanging around in the meantime though but are launching a major fundraising campaign. Most of the monies collected will be used to further develop Terryland. It all represents a great boost to soccer in Galway and Rovers deserve all the help they can get, so don't be shy!
