Dunguaire Castle, near Kinvara, 12 miles from Galway, is turning out to be one of the most popular sources of evening entertainment in Ireland-West. Dunguaire, one time home of the 6th century ruler of Connacht, King Guaire, features a Mediaeval Banquet consisting of prawns, lobster soup, smoked salmon and tender steak, and Spanish wine. Afterwards visitors view a nicely balanced programme of literary entertainment devised by Carolyn Swift, former Script Editor with RTE and directed by Barry Cassin. "The Script," says Miss Swift, "tells in song, verse and anecdote of the saints and scholars, kings and commoners, poets and patrons, witches and warriors associated with Dunguaire and its neighbourhood." The programme features excerpts from the works of W. B. Yeats, Lady Gregory, Brian Merriman, Percy French, Anthony Raftery, Oliver St. John Gogarty, Sean O'Casey and many others. The Dunguaire evening is the highlight of an all-inclusive two day coach tour from Shannon Airport, but a C L E . coach departs from Salthill at 8 p.m. and the Railway Station, Galway at 8.15 p.m. each evening, for the Dunguaire Banquet.
