Top Drama Programme Arranged for Summer
G a l w a y is in for a veritable feast of d r a m a t h i s S u m m e r ; as well as t h e traditional Seoda at t h e T a i b h d h e a r c a n d forthcoming productions by D r u i d , t h e J e s u i t H a l l will h o s t a series of plays, in r e p e r t o r y b y I r e l a n d ' s leading professional c o m p a n i e s . T h e Irish Theatre C o m pany and Gemini Produc tions will p r e s e n t a total of five plays from m i d - J u l y t o e n d of A u g u s t . T h e p r o g r a m m e is seen as a major c o u p for G a l w a y , as c o m p e t i tion for these c o m p a n i e s from o t h e r centres was very k e e n a n d credit is d u e t o t h e city's good audiences and the shown by Fr. Tyrell. T h e Jesuit H a l l , n o w well established as t h e v e n u e for theatrical a n d musical e v e n t s in r e c e n t years h a s enjoyed m o r e visits from t h e I r i s h Theatrical Company than any w h e r e else. T h e c o m p a n y p a r t i c u l a r l y like t h e h a l l ' s c o m p a c t size a n d above all its good a u d i e n c e s . F r . T y r e l l believes t h a t generally well p r e s e n t e d plays will a t t r a c t c r o w d s a n d t h a t it was essen tial for a major tourist city like G a l w a y t o p r o v i d e visi t o r s w i t h a w i d e r a n g e of drama. D u r i n g t h e W i n t e r a small c o m m i t t e e of e n t h u s i a s t s , i n cluding Bernadette Smith, R o b e r t Hill, F r a n k M o n a g han, Ailbhe Garvey, Antoine O Mairtin worked with Fr. Tyrell compiling the p r o gramme. When Gemini Pro d u c t i o n s closed in L i m e r i c k t h e y successfully negotiated for t h e m t o c o m e to G a l w a y . Private Lives b y N o e l C o w a r d , w i t h t h e s a m e cast as Black Rosie. Thieves Carnival b y J e a n A n o u i l h with E m m e t Bergin, T h o m a s Hickey, John Olohan G e r a r d W a l s h , Conal K e a r n e y , Anita Reeves, D e i r d r e Donnelly, Barbara Brennan, Barry M c G o v e r n a n d A n n e Kilmartin. T h r e e Irish come dies Hyacinth Halvey by L a d y G r e g o r y , Village Woo ing b y S h a w a n d Bedtime Story b y O ' C a s e y . T h e s e will be performed by the Theatre Company. T h e first play o p e n s o n J u l y 20th w i t h a different play each evening u n t i l 2 9 t h August.
