SUGAR The Borough Council considered favourably a motion from Granard Town Commissioners that they should request the Minister for Industry and Commerce to arrange a quota of sugar to retail distributors and to ensure that

this is strictly adhered to by the wholesalers. Councillor Bridie O'Flaherty said she could not get sugar for her customers despite the Minister's statement that there was no shortage of sugar. She urged that the Minister should check on the

seventeen a g e n c i e s who distribute sugar in this country to make sure that all their customers were receiving their proper supplies. Councillor Tom Tierncy said' "we all know sugar is being sold under the counter".
