Tag rugby blitz to benefit two local charities
BY MARY O'CONNOR A charity Tag rugby blitz to be held at the end of the month will benefit two local charities. The Busker Browne's Charity Tag Blitz which takes place at Corinthians Rugby Club on Saturday August 29 is in aid of Enable Ireland and Galway Simon who provide essential services in the community. The event will kick off at 1pm with four mixed leagues available on the day for all levels of players. There will be a barbecue, entertainment, bar and lots of prizes on offer throughout the day for players, supporters and spectators. Registration is 240 per team of 12 with each team guaranteed four matches in group stages. As an added bonus when registering each team will receive 12 complimentary passes for Galway Greyhound Stadium which is supporting the fundraiser. Following the blitz and the fun on the pitch a "Back to School" fancy dress party will kick off in Busker Browne's at 8pm on the night. There will be prizes for the best dressed team. "This is a great opportunity for one last shot at winning some silverware for 2009 as well as giving people the opportunity to have a tag team night out at the Greyhound track, all whilst supporting local worthy charities," say the organisers.

Garda appeal for crash witnesses
Last week's issue featured a story entitled `Mystery surrounds fatal bank holiday crash' which included a garda appeal for witnesses into the road accident that claimed the life of 25-year-old Saffron Richie. It was stated that the front seat passenger had been the deceased woman's older sister Elisa. It should have read that the passenger was the older sister Angela Richie and that Elisa is Saffron's twin. Saffron had also lived in Tulsk, Roscommon. The Galway Advertiser is happy to clarify this point.
