May23 to June 6. Smart Telecom is providing a bandwidth the size of Tuam to power Galway Volvo Ocean Race. The company's next generation network technology will be provided over the fibre infrastructure in Galway city, offering the event up to 1GB in Internet capacity if required. Based on huge bandwidth requirements to run the biggest free event in Ireland this year, Smart Telecom will power the Internet communications for the media centre which will accommodate up to 200 international journalists, TV and radio outside broadcast units, satellite mobile units, large screens throughout the Race Village and Salthill, and video communications. A global audience of 1.8 billion will receive instant access to real time coverage live from the Galway Volvo Ocean Race Village, Salthill Promenade and the media centre. The service includes a high-speed packet design offering 200mb of symmetrical Internet bandwidth as well as offering voice,

data, and video communications. As a result Smart Telecom is showcasing Galway as a next generation technology hub, the likes of which has not been seen at any other Volvo Ocean Race Stopover port. Keith Kiely, regional sales manager for Smart Telecom, stated: "We are delighted to be able to meet all of the telecommunications

needs for the Volvo Ocean Race and provide our next generation technology to meet higher bandwidth capabilities with delivery of state of the art Internet communications for the Galway stopover." Let's Do It Galway chairman John Killeen says: "This is a worldclass service, which enables Let's Do It Galway to provide the most up-todate technology to this

global event and has exceeded all of our requirements and expectations. "Thanks to Smart Telecom, we have really pushed the scale of the communication technology which will be available over the twoweek event, making Galway the IT infrastructure stopover of the Volvo Ocean Race."

It's a deal -- John Killeen shakes hands with Smart telecom's Keith Kiely while Minister Eamon Ryan looks on.
