Sports auction set to raise money for cystic fibrosis sufferers
BY KERNAN ANDREWS A signed team photo of Liverpool FC and autographed jerseys from Galway United FC and Connacht Rugby are up for grabs next week at an auction to raise funds for people with cystic fibrosis. The Spirit of Voice festival and The Meyrick Hotel have come together to host a fundraising evening of world music and sporting memorabilia - Kiss Of Life which takes place in Tosh Bar, The Meyrick Hotel, Eyre Square, on Sunday March 9 at 8pm. As well as the signed Liverpool photo and Galway Utd and Connacht jerseys, there will be other sporting items on auction during the event. Music will be provided by DJ Will Softly, Nero, Paul Hayes, and Andreas Elder. Cystic fibrosis primarily affects the lungs and the digestive system affecting the glands, damaging the pancreas, and reproductive system. People with CF are prone to constant chest infections and malnutrition. As a result, persons with CF must also follow a demanding daily routine of physical therapy to keep the lungs free of congestion and infection and consume artificial enzymes with food, to help them absorb adequate nutrition from their food. Adi Roche to attend Camp Claddagh's Chernobyl Candle launch

the Chernobyl Children's Project International. It is planning to bring 50 children to Galway this July. The group is selling Chernobyl Candles. All profits from the sale of the candle will go towards raising the 30,000 needed to bring the children to Galway. The group is also involved with providing funds for life saving cardiac surgery for children. Camp Claddagh has also announced plans to build a home in Belarus. The home will take up to 10 children from an orphanage and place them in a loving family environment. Over the last two years the group have managed to bring 80 children to Galway for the month of July. According to Shane Lennon of Camp Claddagh, each child who comes to Galway is returned two years life expectancy, "so the people of Galway are giving the gift of life".

All weather GAA pitch sought for Cregmahon area
BY KERNAN ANDREWS Gaelic games are in line for major improvements in the Gort region should planning permission be secured for an all weather pitch. Beagh Community Centre and GAA Club is seeking planning permission from the Galway County Council for an all weather pitch and ball wall with associated fencing and flood lighting at Cregmahon, Gort.

Meet the players at Galway United's club Open Day
Galway United will hold an open day on Saturday at Terryland Park (12 noon) before the season kicks off next week. Manager Tony Cousins will be taking his squad through a public training session at Terryland where supporters will get the opportunity to meet the players. The squad will be playing a 40 minute game in Terryland after which each player will take part in a special "Crossbar Challenge", while Cousins will use the occasion to talk to supporters about his hopes for the coming season. The Terryland Tigers Club will be launched at the event with each tiger receiving a special membership pack. Admission is free The club is also launching a new initiative to encourage season ticket holders. Local businesses are offering 10 per cent discounts to season ticket holders. Specsavers, Claddagh & Celtic Jewellery, Hynes Shoes, Hanley Menswear, Malt House Restaurant, Becketts Bar, Geraghtys Menswear, Deeleys Menswear, Sean Costello's Hair Design are among the businesses to date, while City Taxis are offering 1 off their fares.
