Drunken welder `spent a penny' against Supermac's window
A welder who was found urinating up against the front window of Supermac's at Eyre Square, told Galway District Court he had no recollection of the night in question because he was so drunk. Patrick Ahern (29), from Main Street, Ballylongford, Co Kerry, pleaded guilty to breaching the peace, being drunk and to urinating in a public place which offended public decency at Eyre Square, Galway, on January 30 last. Inspector Mick Coppinger said that gardai on patrol in the area at the time found the accused urinating against Supermac's front window and when they approached the accused who was very intoxicated, he became abusive towards them. Ahern, who explained that he worked as a welder in Galway during the week but went home to Kerry every weekend, said that he had no recollection of the night because he was very drunk and he wished to apologise to the gardai. Judge Mary Fahy fined Ahern 300 for breaching the peace, 100 for being drunk in public and she took the remaining charge into account.
