Tell the council what kind of fun you want to have in the city
BY KERNAN ANDREWS Galwegians' views on sports and pastimes, how the city can best support them, and improve the facilities already available, are being sought by the Galway City Council. The Galway City Council is asking local residents, community groups, and sporting organisations for suggestions on the draft Galway City Recreation and Amenity Needs Study. The study is the result of consultations with interested groups over the past year. It assesses the various public, sporting, and water based amenities and facilities in the city and will targets areas for further improvement based on current and future needs. The public are being asked to have their say on the draft study at a `drop in' clinic on Thursday July 12 in the Council Chamber, City Hall, College Road. The clinic will run from 9am to 4pm and on the day consultants Cunnane Stratton Reynolds will be on hand to provide background information on the project, answer queries, and assist in making submissions, and observations. Written submissions should be sent to the senior planner, Galway City Council, City Hall, Galway, emailed to recneeds@galwaycity.ie, or faxed to 091 - 561327. The closing date for receipt of submissions and observations is Friday August 3.

Connemara company sold in multi-million euro deal
Connemara electronics firm Aontec has been acquired by a German company for a sum believed to be more than 40 million. Baile na hAbhainn company Aontec employs 148 staff and produces pages with embedded chips for electronic passports. The company had a turnover of 12 million last year. The firm is understood to have been acquired by German firm Assa Abloy ITG in a multimillion euro deal. Recent acquisitions in the technology sector have seen companies sold for between three and five times revenue, giving Aontec an estimated price tag in excess of 40 million. Aontec was founded in 1997 as a subsidiary of the German company Amatech. The company's current owners financed a buyout when the parent firm went bankrupt in 2002.
