Beautiful Barbados
A travel taster from Oranmore Travel
Barbados, the most eastern island in the Caribbean, with an area of 430 square kilometres, is situated about 100 miles east of its closest neighbour. With 97 kilometres of coastline, Barbados has much to offer its visitors. Renowned for its clear blue waters and soft, pink-sand, beaches, Barbados is a Mecca for scuba divers, windsurfers, and sunworshippers from all over the world. The island's tropical climate is delightful with year round sunshine and sea breezes this together with the reputation of the Bajan people, being the warmest and friendliest in the Caribbean, makes it one of the most revisited destinations of all the islands. The name Barbados comes from Portuguese and refers to the bearded fig trees that grow wild all over the island. English settlers first arrived in 1627 and quickly started planting cotton and tobacco. These crops were not productive, but the

introduction of sugar cane changed the face of the island and set its course in history. Imposing plantation houses were built and farms established to grow and process sugar and molasses for

the production of rum. Now, in the 21st century, rum is still produced, and a few old plantation houses survive, but today Barbados is most famous for its numerous exclusive hotels and resorts

Barbados is a great destination for your wedding. We have a special wedding package on offer which includes the services of a wedding co-ordinator, marriage licence, church wedding, civil

wedding certificate, bouquets, dinner, etc. The sunny weather all year round combined with excellent golf courses and facilities makes Barbados an ideal golf destination.
