Campaigners to ask Galway -- Where has our democracy gone?'
BY KERNAN ANDREWS As we face into the General Election, speakers from the Rossport 5, nursing, and the anti-war movement will be asking Galway audiences `Where is our democracy?' Where Is Our democracy? is the title of a public meeting which will be held in the Park House Hotel, Forster Street, on Tuesday at 8.30pm. Addressing the meeting will be Vincent McGrath (Rossport 5), Independent Cllr Catherine Connolly, Niall Farrell (Galway Alliance Against War), Jo Tully (vice president Irish Nurses Organisation, albeit speaking in a personal capacity), and a medical doctor (name yet to be confirmed). While the public retain a passion for the issues of the day and in making their voice hears, a significant number of people still abstain from the electoral process as they do not believe their vote will make any difference. The panel of speakers at this meeting are all known for their experience in campaigning. They will examine the current situation of local, national, and international issues under the present government. The meeting will endeavour to encourage people to get out and vote. Admission is free and all are welcome.

Shadow: From time to time we get a special cat. This usually happens when life gets tough for us and we need a special boost to help us. We have had cats like Kraemor and Marmaduke, to name just two of them, and now into us has arrived our latest angel, Shadow. Shadow is not in the first flush of youth but is loving, kind, gentle, and so sweet. His attitude is that we are his minions who should be at his beck and call, and indeed we are. He would be an ideal companion for someone living alone who needs company. He will gladly sit with you and will hold down a conversation with you and happily discuss the world and all its woes. So if you want company give Shadow a call at (091) 563631. You won't regret it.
