Don't feed the pigeons -- they're massive
BY UNA SINNOTT Residents in the city centre apartment complex for older people at Whitehall have appealed to people not to feed pigeons in the area. A spokesperson for the local residents' group told the Galway Advertiser this week that individuals feeding the animals were causing serious problems for residents, who found the area outside their homes covered in bird droppings and regularly had to clean up after people who threw bread on the ground for the pigeons. Residents have expressed concerns at the nuisance caused by the birds and the health implications of the uneaten food and droppings, as well as the possible danger of wild birds massing in the area if avian flu were to reach Ireland. "It's causing serious problems and we are asking people to have some consideration for the elderly people living here," the spokesperson said. "There are bird droppings everywhere and we don't know what those birds are carrying."

`No honestly, I couldn't eat another thing -- until tomorrow.' One of the Whitehall pigeons looked fit to burst when pictured yesterday.
