People with mental illness twice as likely to smoke
BY MARY O'CONNOR People with mental illness are twice as likely to smoke than the general population, a conference organised by the Health Service Executive West was told recently. The National Smoking Prevention and Cessation conference, which was hosted by the HSE West Smoking Cessation Service in association with the Irish Cancer Society and the Office for Tobacco Control, heard that cigarette smoking prevalence rates are higher among people of lower socio-economic status and other disadvantaged groups including homeless people, prisoners and those living with mental illness. The highest smoking rates are among skilled working class people, with almost one in three reported as smokers. The upper and middle classes have lower than average rates. The conference heard that a recent Polish study revealed that 81 per cent of prisoners surveyed were regular smokers. A UK study indicated that 85 per cent of homeless residents of night shelters and 95 per cent of rough sleepers smoked. Some 150 delegates, including 12 speakers from Scotland, England and Ireland attended the event. They spoke on subjects such as passive smoking in the home and social class differentials in smoking.

Amazing weight loss with latest GI/GL Diet Plan
B
ronagh Logue's life has dramatically changed, thanks to the new breakthrough diet developed by doctors and nutritionists. She's lost an amazing 6 stone and gone from a size 18/20 to a svelte 10/12. It really is the diet that everyone's talking about. Based on the Glycaemic Index (GI), it also combines Glycaemic Load (GL) and Sugar Content, which makes it unique. Celebrity Chef, Antony Worrall Thompson is backing it for success, making his best selling GI Diet cook book available to everyone starting the programme. It's been featured on the BBC and ITV. IT REALLY WORKS "People are just amazed when they see me, I look so slim compared to how I used to be" Bronagh said "Since I started the just4weeks programme I've lost 6 stone, the weight came off steadily and I found it really easy to stick to. I never once felt hungry or bored. The menu plans were really delicious the whole family enjoyed them, so much so my mum has now lost 3 stone herself". Weekly just4weeks support classes help you achieve your target, each week you receive a body composition analysis, one to one help and information handouts and recipes "I just loved the support I got at the weekly classes. I feel so much better, much healthier and more energetic. Clothes shopping is great and I can't wait to book my summer holiday this year" To find out more about this amazing programme, attend a Diet Information Seminar at your local class.
