It's Kincasslagh v Chianti as Daniel takes on Bocelli in parking row
BY DECLAN VARLEY The promoters of Daniel O'Donnell's Galway concert are putting on extra stewards at Leisureland on Saturday evening to ensure that fans going to the Bocelli concert in nearby Pearse Stadium don't slip in and take their car parking spaces. The concert featuring Daniel was booked for Leisureland many months ago, and it is expected to be a sell out, but nobody bargained for Bocelli rescheduling his show for the nearby GAA stadium on the same evening. A spokesperson for those promoting Daniel O'Donnel's show says they were worried about fans being forced to park long distances from the hall and had discussions with Leisureland management this week. Stewards will now check cars to ensure that only those going to Daniel's show or others using the facilities at the leisure centre can park there on Satuday evening. Doors open for the Daniel O'Donnell concert at 7 and the show is at 8 while at nearby Pearse Stadium the gates open at 6.30 and the Bocelli show also starts at 8 pm.

Bocelli will stay over in Galway after concert
BY MARIA DALY The classical singer Andrea Bocelli will finally make the trip to Galway to play in Pearse Stadium on Saturday July 22. Bocelli is expected to arrive into Ireland on Saturday and will be staying the night in Galway after the concert before travelling to Kilkenny for his second concert in Nowlan Park on Sunday July 23. The Italian singer was due to play in Galway on July 1, however he had to cancel the concert due to illness. Some 150 musicians will be supporting Bocelli at various stages throughout the concert. The Czech National Symphony Orchestra and band who are conducted by Maestro Marcella Rota will play on the night, while singing will be the Prague Chamber choir who will perform some classical opera arias. Soprano Doriana Milazzo and Baritone Gianfranco Montresor will offer a full sensory musical experience through their collaboration with Andrea Bocelli, performing mostly famous tenor arias as well as Neapolitan songs. Italian pop singer and mezzo soprano Rosalia Miserri will at hand to help Bocelli to perform some of the tracks from his latest album Amore. Tickets are still available for this concert from Ticketmaster outlets nationwide, prices 155, 105, and 75.

Fire breaks out at Corrandulla petrol station
Firefighters spent several hours battling a large fire at a service station in Corrandulla yesterday evening. The fire broke out at Flanagan's petrol station in Corrandulla at around 3pm yesterday. Four units of the fire brigade -- two from Galway, one from Loughrea, and one from Athenry -- attended the fire, along with a water tank from Gort, and firefighters spent a number of hours bringing the blaze under control. Two people were brought by ambulance to University Hospital Galway suffering from smoke inhalation.
