Woman barred from parts of the city following weekend disturbances
A 56-year-old woman charged in connection with a disturbance in Ballybane over the weekend, has been ordered to stay away from her local football pitch and other areas of the city, following her appearance before Galway District Court yesterday. Margaret Donovan, 48 Rinn Luachra, Ballybane, is charged with breaching the peace at Castlepark on Sunday last, March 5. She is further charged with having a rock in her possession which was intended to cause injury or to intimidate a person in a violent dispute on the same date. Garda Owen Griffin gave evidence of arresting the accused at Castle Park on Sunday. In reply to the second charge regarding the rock, the accused said, "A girl threw it at me and it hit me on the finger. I picked it up for my protection." Inspector Pat McHugh said the Gardai were not objecting to bail provided conditions were attached. Defence solicitor Sean Acton said he wished to see Garda statements in relation to the alleged incident. Judge Mary Fahy remanded Mrs. Donovan on continuing bail to appear before the court again on April 12, on condition she stay away from Castle Park football pitch, Rockland Avenue, Rahylin Glebe, and Lios an Run.
