MARY
Girls' fashion takes a trip down memory lane this season with the emphasis on the sixties. Flower power looks are big and look great when teamed with denim. Check out the Miss Sixties range at K2 and Klassy Kids in Cross Street which develops this theme to stunning effect. Both Save the Queen and Miss Sixty are edgy rock chic labels normally associated with cool teens and upwards. These are now available at K2 for younger rockers who enjoyed strutting their stuff in DKNY, Roxy PJE and Magilla. The PJE label offers a soft vintage dressy look for Christmas parties and occasion wear. Top looks from the pen of Save the Queen include sensational coats in luxurious fabrics with a timeless artisan appeal featuring button, pocket and stitching details, making them an investment buy. Boys can choose from labels such as Ralph Lauren, Diesel, Gant and Tommy Hilfiger as well as other more price conscious but equally fashion forward collections. Fashion conscious babies can choose from dainty little dresses and coats to designer knitwear in an array of gorgeous colours. The crisp white shirt is a big player on the world's fashion scene this season. It can be worn dressed up or down and appears in

many forms from the plain and unadorned to the more ornate. Les Jumelles at 11 Upper Abbeygate Street offers a number of exquisite versions from the pen of Anne Fontaine which many women may like to put at the top of their Christmas wish list. Dramatic dressers may be drawn to eclectic designers such as Marithe et Francois Girbaud, Leiko, Munthe plus Simonsen, Mary Grant and People of the Labrynth. Their creations are artisan and vintage ensuring no two women will look alike in their collections. Annette Gortz and OSKA's collections have a similar leaning with an earthy practicality and versatile wearability while Tansit is young, funky and very well priced. Paddy Campbell, Betty Jackson, and Louise Kennedy offer impeccable tailoring in haute couture fabrics for that well groomed Manhattan look as portrayed by Meryl Streep in The Devil wears Prada. The Anne Valerie Hash collection has a Milanese flavour featuring classics with a twist in softest cashmere and Venetian wools.

Walk tall
How do you treat your feet? With kindness and appreciation for all their hard work or with little regard, only noticing they exist when they ache? And ache they can, especially if you are female and have a penchant for killer heels. If your New Year resolution is to care for your feet then consider buying a pair of MBTs. Masai Barefoot Technology (MBT) is described as the first footwear that has a positive effect on the whole body. The brainchild of Swiss engineer Karl Muller, it was inspired by the semi nomadic Masai tribe, exceptional athletes who were renowned for their upright posture and who were free of back or joint problems. "Strictly speaking MBTs are not shoes at all," according to the manufacturers. "They are highly effective pieces of fitness and exercise equipment. MBTs help everyone to do something for their health and fitness, easily." Fans of the shoes say they cushion the feet, help them lose weight, work like a personal mini-gym and improve their posture and back problems. When you try them on first you may feel like you will topple over but soon will feel like you are walking on air. They take a little time to get used to and you must build up your usage gradually. Expect a few aching muscles as your legs become accusomed to this regular workout, but think about what's it's doing for your posture, body and fitness levels. * MBTs for men and women come in a number of styles and colours and range in price from 189 to 229. They are available from Anatomy at 42 Upper Abbeygate Street, Holly's Pharmacy, Marina Point, Ballinasloe, Mullins Pharmacy, Salthill, Elvery Sports, Retail Park, Headford Road and Liosbaun Industrial Estate, G Stanley & Son Ltd, Market St, Clifden and MJ Sports, the Square, Gort.
