Emotional journey as sister of murdered Headford priest returns to Uganda for wedding
BY DECLAN VARLEY A sister of the Headford priest Fr Declan O'Toole who was murdered in Africa three years ago made an emotional journey recently to her brother's former parish church in Uganda to get married. Mill Hill priest Fr Declan was travelling with the two men, a driver and a cook, from Moroto, a town about 37 miles northwest of Kotido, when his vehicle was shot at in 2002. Fr O'Toole's sister Ita and her fiance Tim O'Connor and family members were treated royally in Kotido when they were married in the church where her late brother preached for two years before he was killed. Fr Declan was held in very high esteem by locals and they honoured the newlyweds by presenting them with a goat (pictured below) at the wedding. Ita is also pictured below with some local women who helped organise the first Irish wedding to be held in that area of Uganda.

Oscar style fundraiser for Make a Wish at Karma
BY SINEAD MCGOVERN It is hoped that up to 25,000 will be raised for the Make A Wish Foundation at an Oscar-style fundraiser in Karma nightclub next Friday night, November 11. The red carpet will be out, the Rolls Royce will be at the door, and there will even be (fake) paparazzi pestering the stars as they arrive for what promises to be a star-studded affair. Guests at the Oscar-style night are invited to either glam up as if they were really attending the Oscar Awards, or dress as their favourite actor or actress. The cover charge for the event is 15, or 50 to have access to the VIP section where you can enjoy table service and privacy to mingle with other VIPs who will be in attendance such as former Miss Irelands Andrea Roche and Lynda Duffy, and You're A Star contestant Brian Ormond. All proceeds from the door, as well as those raised from the special Make A Wish cocktail which will be on sale on the night, will go directly to the Make A Wish Foundation. The Make A Wish Foundation has been helping make wishes come true for terminally sick children since 1992. Since its establishment in the west of Ireland, it has granted a number of special wishes including helping make David Morgan from Swinford become a garda for a week, and bringing nine-year-old Jason Nee from Galway on board Naval ship LE Roisin. Tickets for the Oscar theme party are available now from the Skeffington Arms Hotel reception, or by telephoning (091) 563173.
