Skateboard parks will be covered SUMMER SAVERS by insurance says Cameron FREE
BY KERNAN ANDREWS Skateboarding facilities provided by the Galway City Council can be insured as long as they meet the required safety standards according to Labour's Cllr Billy Cameron. At the 79th AGM of the Irish Public Bodies Mutual Insurances Ltd, it was announced that the organisation will insure skateboarding facilities for the youth provided they meet the present British standards. The news has been welcomed by Cllr Cameron who represented the Galway City VEC at the meeting. Cllr Cameron says this statement will now allay the fears of council officials and councillors that insurance cover would not be provided for designated skateboard areas. He added that The Labour Party will "vigorously pursue" for the immediate application of monies to be allocated for this "rapidly growing" youth leisure activity. "Labour have pushed the agenda of children's park and often been a lone voice in favour," said Cllr Cameron. "Now we can combine the provision of youth facilities all in one location where feasible, making parks even more `family friendly'."
