Check mates, check out Knuttel and Linley's wonderful chessboard
A marvellous chess set, created by the acclaimed Irish artist Graham Knuttel and Viscount David Linley is currently on show in Bold Art Gallery, Merchants Road. This unique work, previously seen on The Late Late Show, came from an idea of Knuttel's who worked closely with Dublin Art Foundry to create the pieces. Each of the chess pieces is solid silver and bronze, stamped and pronounced authentic by the Assay Office. Every piece has the Irish Assay Mark, date stamp, 925 silver and the edition mark, as each chess piece is a unique sculpture in its own right. The final finishing, polishing and patination is done and checked by Graham. Viscount Linley is the craftsman behind the table of fine wood marquetry (where veneers are cut to a design and pieced together to form a pattern before being applied to a solid basewood). The Chess Set is currently on show in Bold Art Gallery until Tuesday February 1. - KA

This week's photo features Mayor Connolly surrounded by some cowboys at the launch this week of the Bish show Oklahoma. It is important to note that this photo was NOT taken during a city council meeting, although the threatening demeanour of the said cowboys might be familiar to the first citizen.
