Empire State Building was built quicker than Eyre Square facelift says Conneely
BY KERNAN ANDREWS The Empire State building in New York was built far quicker than it is taking Eyre Square to be refurbished according to Fine Gael's Cllr Padraic Conneely. Cllr Conneely has called for the Galway City Council to issue monthly work in progress reports on the Eyre Square Enhancement Scheme, so performance can be monitored against target dates and to ensure the project is completed on time. Work began on the square in April and is planned to continue until August 2005. However Cllr Conneely has consistently complained that work is taking too long and at Monday's city council meeting he claimed the work was "at a standstill". However the city manager John Tierney said this was untrue and that work is progressing constantly. "The Empire State Building was built in one year and 48 days," Cllr Conneely replied. "We'll be going on until October 2005."
