Eight Chanelle employees were recently recognised for their role in teaching Junior Achievement programmes in local schools in Loughrea. As a result of their effort 250 local school children benefited from a Junior Achievement programme and gained an insight into what it is like to work in Chanelle. Each of the Chanelle business volunteers taught a Junior Achievement programme for five to eight weeks in St Brendan's BNS and St Brigid's Vocational School. Managing director of Chanelle Michael Burke was also presented with a plaque recognising Chanelle's contribution to Junior Achievement over the past two years. He said: "I'm delighted that Chanelle is involved with Junior Achievement and that the Chanelle business volunteers have given their time and efforts, to benefit school children in Loughrea, it's very important for us to put something back into the community." Junior Achievement Ireland is a non-profit making international organisation which teaches enterprise and life skills to young people aged five to 18 years. Volunteers come from local businesses, organisations, and colleges. These volunteers go into local classrooms to teach Junior Achievement's structured programmes in partnership with the class teacher. In Galway this year 3,000 young people participated in programmes, however 37,000 young people took part in programmes nationally.
