Pizza eile - a slice above the rest
Say goodbye to ham and cheese and hello to crispy aromatic duck. A new gourmet pizza delivery service will be launched in Galway tomorrow night, and it promises to liven up the taste buds of every jaded pizza fan in the city. The brainchild of chefs Jason O'Connell and Niall Walsh, Pizza Eile will operate on a nightly basis from 5pm till late. Massimo's on William Street West is the base - in fact the two pizza wizards have been successfully operating a lunch service there for a number of months now - and they will deliver to up to three miles out of the city centre. The emphasis will be mainly on fresh ingredients and world cuisine, so you can forget crispy mushroom and dried tomatoes - and think instead of Irish breakfast pizza and even peaches and cream pizza for dessert. The two creators of Pizza Eile have an impressive background in the world of service and good food. Mr Walsh spent two years as a sous chef in London's Le Caprice and the world famous Ivy Restaurant (the one where all the celebs go), and Mr O'Connell has years of experience with the Hilton Hotel Group and spent the last few years working as deputy general manager in Dublin's famous Westbury and Berkeley Court Hotels. In the first few week the focus will be on the west side of the city, incorporating areas such as Newcastle, Knocknacarra, Bushypark, etc, and in coming weeks the east side will also be catered for. If you fancy sampling a bit of the menu you are welcome to pop along to the launch of the delivery service tomorrow night in Massimo from 6pm. The service officially begins on Monday.

Do you like talking about yourself?
How well do you actually know yourself? A good way to find out could be to take part in VIP Productions new reality TV series for Network 2 Let's Talk About Me. In the programme, five complete strangers will be invited to a dinner party where they will scrutinise each other's looks, attitudes, body language, and personality. After the meal the contestants will take part in the ultimate selfperception game show how you see yourself is not necessarily how others see you. There will be five self probing rounds, in which contestants will be quizzed on how well they know their own personality. And the contestant who most successfully identifies how the other guests see him/her wins the game! How well do you know yourself? Do you think you could cut it in reality TV land? If you are interested in talking part contact Mark O'Neill at (01) 6601588 or email moneill@anotheravenue.c om. Deadline for applications is August 1. SMcG
Cllr Conneely's epic journeys to criticise Eyre Square
Are there no geographical lengths to the distance Cllr Padraic Conneely will go to assert his dissatisfaction with the progress of the Eyre Square enhancement scheme? Last week Cllr Conneely said the Empire State Building in New York, built in one year and 48 days, was completed faster than the refurbishment of the square. This week he said the square is currently "looking like Baghdad". Well that's east and west covered, so I guess next week Cllr Conneely will go north or south for his metaphorical criticism - KA
