Galway volunteers needed for Daisy Days
BY SINEAD MCGOVERN Aware in Galway is appealing for volunteers for its Daisy Days which this year will be held on September 9, 10, and 11. During the three days daisy bulbs will be on sale at permitted outlets for 2 per pack, and volunteers will also be collecting on the streets. A day or even a spare hour would help the cause greatly. Aware is a voluntary organisation set up in 1985 to support those suffering from depression and their families. It depends on the Daisy Days to fund its support groups nationwide and to keep the locall helpline service operating. It also operates a nationwide secondary schools programme called `Beat the Blues' to educate teenagers about the illness, and provides a vital information service. Aware meetings are held in Galway city every Wednesday at 8.30pm at Danesfield House, 23 Sea Road, opposite the Jesuit church, and in Tuam parish centre on the Dublin Road at 8.30pm on the second and fourth Mondays of the month. By volunteering for Daisy Days, you can help Aware defeat depression and prevent suicide. For more information or to volunteer your time call Louise or Dermot on (01) 6617211.

PET TIP OF THE WEEK
In seven years one female cat and her offspring can theoretically

Jezebel

produce 420,000 cats. The GSPCA sees the unfortunate results of this every week. Every second telephone call this year has been from people reporting sick cats and kittens in their gardens. Many of these cats were not born wild. They were domestic casualties - the first to be tipped out when their owners moved house or simply lost interest in them. In turn, these unfortunate cats get pregnant, have kittens that have no human contact, and then cannot be homed. These kittens in turn get pregnant, and so the awful cycle goes on. The GSPCA see poor little kittens suffering from cat flu and other diseases that leave them dying alone in back yards. Many uncaring people simply phone the GSPCA wanting rid of them, treating them as vermin. If you have a stray cat and kittens in your garden, treat them with the love and respect they deserve. Work with the GSPCA towards a solution that benefits everyone. It will

CATS:
Jezabel: A brown/black striped tabby cat of around two years of age is spayed, very friendly, and ready to take up residence in a good home who recognises her wonderful qualities. She is very adaptable, loves being lifted and cuddled, and will make an ideal feline companion. Just look at those big green eyes - how can you resist? Summer: We're into autumn now, but our Summer puss is only dying to get out and sunbathe in your back garden. Summer is every colour black, tan and white - and she glows like the evening sun. This 18-month-old lady is also spayed and is just as playful as a summer's day. Why not take Summer home and enjoy her during our Indian summer? RENO: is a male labrador cross of around three years old. Like lots of labs he is strong and boisterous, needing lots of exercise. Reno will make a

great family pet, but would be more suited to a family with older children. Reno has a lovely shiny black coat, chocolate eyes, a white bib, and is very handsome. If you can show Reno the kind of life he needs, give him a call now - he's waiting to hear from you. JACKIE: is a little black terrier cross of about two years old. She is a very friendly, lively little dog who enjoys playing with her big and small friends in the kennels. Jackie is looking for a new home where she will be the centre of attention and get lots of love and affection.
