Plans progress for north Galway Educate Together school

MODERN HOMES & BUILDING EXHIBITION RETURNS TO GALWAY
The campaign to establish an Educate Together school in north Galway gathered momentum this week with the first public information meeting on the project. The meeting, organised by the Galway North Educate Together group, saw many new parents pledge their support for the project. The group hopes to establish a school in the Claregalway area by September 2005. Educate Together has been running multidenominational primary schools throughout the country since 1984. There are now 31 schools in Ireland, with a further four due to open in September. The schools, which are child-centred and encourage parent participation, follow the national curriculum and avail of the same Department of Education and Science funding as other schools. Pupils are encouraged on an emotional and creative level as well as academically, while parents are invited to get involved in the day to day running of the schools. Galway North Educate Together was set up by a group of parents who wish to send their children to an Educate Together school. The group meets on a weekly basis and plans further public meetings and fundraising events in the future. Further information is available from John Bradshaw, GNET chairman, at (087) 7993525.
