Maplin Electronics to open superstore in Galway on Saturday
BY JULIE TIERNEY Leading UK specialist electronics retailer Maplin Electronics, will open its third store in Ireland - the company's 82nd store - in Galway this Saturday. The new store is located in the busy Wellpark retail park and will complement Maplin's existing ROI outlets in Dublin. The first customer to walk through the doors of the new store will have the opportunity to officially cut the ribbon and receive a free gift from the store's management team. "Galway is a key location in our store expansion strategy - we selected the location as the site for our first ROI store outside the capital, since the Dublin stores have grown to become successful businesses and flagship stores. The launch of our store in Wellpark Retail Park means an improved service for our customers, and we look forward to building on the success in the future," said Graham Caldwell, managing director at Maplin Electronics. Since launching in Ireland, Maplin has built up a significant local customer base and brand recognition for its huge range of gadgets, stocking everything from remote control toys to the latest satellite navigation technology. To celebrate the store opening Maplin is holding a full range of events and activities for customers to take part in throughout the day. Customers will be able to try out Maplin's remote control cars both inside and outside of the store, and opening offers will give a total saving of some 18,000 for the first customers. Advanced gadgets such as the Street Pilot 3 Deluxe will be available to the first 10 customers, reduced from standard price of 1,070.96 to 899.99. The first 40 customers through the door will also get the chance to buy gadgets such as an Electronic Keyboard for 39.99, reduced from 82.37.

Win a set of Bond-type walkietalkie watches from Maplin
To mark the opening of the new Maplin store in Galway this weekend, Maplin, in association with the Galway Advertiser is giving away two PMR radio watches, two of the coolest gadgets you'll have seen for some time. This dual function device masquerades as a normal silver watch, but will also function as a discreet two-way radio. People across the country who still dream of being James Bond will be enthralled by the new PMR radio watches, which are sold in pairs exclusively through Maplin Electronics. But along with indulging fantasies of being international spies, using the watch to feed back important information from behind enemy lines, the PMR watch also has its practical uses. Ideal for any rugged types who go out into the wilds of the country to do outdoor activities, the PMR watches allow you to keep in touch with the rest of your team, particularly in remote areas that aren't covered by mobile networks. With a range of up to one and a half miles, the lightweight device can tune in to eight different channels, each with 38 privacy codes giving 304 possible frequencies, which helps to prevent crossovers with other PMR radios in the area. The watches feature voice activation for hands free use, a digital watch, backlit LCD display, call alert, electronic volume control and a rechargeable battery, the battery charger is included. These and many other fantastic technologies are available at the new Maplin Store at Wellpark Retail Park. To be in with a chance of winning a pair of the PMR watches, all you have to do is tell us where the new Maplin superstore is opening in Galway this weekend, send your answer and name, address and contact telephone number on a postcard to Maplin Competition, Galway Advertiser, Eyre Square, Galway before March 4.
