Lord Haw-Haw biography to be launched in Galway
B Y K E R NA N A N D R E W S W I L L I A M J O Y C E , b e t t e r k n o w n as H i t l e r ' s propagandist Lord Haw-Haw, is the subject of a new biography which will be launched in Galway next week. Joyce was born in Canada and raised in Galway and during WWII became a propagandist for Hitler introducing his radio broadcasts with "Germany calling, Germany calling" and signing off with a notorious laugh which gave him his nickname Lord Haw-Haw. He is buried-in Bohermore Cemetery. Mary Kenny, the wellknown columnist with the Irish Independent, has written Germany Calling A Personal Biography of William Joyce Lord HawHaw. Published by New Island, the book will be launched in the Galway Bay Hotel, Salthill on Thursday October 23 at 7pm. Members of the Joyce family will be in attendance. On Friday October 24, Kenny will sign copies of her book in Kenny's Bookshop at 1pm.

Russian Orthodox service for St Nicholas
BY KERNAN ANDREWS T H E SPLENDOUR of the Russian Orthodox Great Yespers will be celebrated at St Nicholas' Collegiate C h u r c h t h i s S u n d a y at 6pm. There are many people living in Galway from the former Soviet Union, Greece, the Balkans, and the Middle East who are Orthodox Christians. This Sunday St Nicholas' will reflect Orthodox worship in a _special service of Great Vespers. Clergy and people of Dublin's Russian Orthodox church will, attend, Fr George Zavershinsky will officiate, and the Resurgam choir, set up recently by Mark Duley, will sing at the vespers. St Nicholas' church itself will be transformed with icons, candlelight, and the liturgical music of Rachmaninov and Tchaikovsky. "We will attempt to capture the wonderfully contemplative style of Orthodox worship and hope all present will be drawn into a Greater Presence through a rich matrix of sound, movement, fragrance, and colour," said the rector of St Nicholas' the Revd Patrick Towers. "So we most warmly welcome all people to join us this Sunday for the Great Vespers at 6pm and for the Holy Eucharist at 11.30am."

Clean up the canal on Satin irday
A CLEAN up of Galway's canal will take place this S a t u r d a y from 11am to 2pm to raise funds for the NUI, Galway and G M I T sub aqua club.
