THE WESTERN Writers' C e n t r e w a s t h i s week settling into its new home at 34 Nuns' Island. The centre, which has moved just down the road from its former premises in Canavan House, offers a range of services and courses for writers in Galway and throughout the west. The centre can now be found beside the canal, in a tranquil setting at the edge of the city centre. "There's a wonderful, almost poetic ambience," Fred Johnston, the centre's founder and manager, said of the new premises. "You leave the city behind you here." The writers' centre has been open for less than a year, and plans are already under way to repeat last year's successful winter festival as well as provide outreach services to other counties in west. The Western Writers' Centre, Ionad Scrfbhneoiri Chaith'n Maude, can be contacted at (091) 533595.
