Now in its 20th year and previously known as the NCD Bravery Awards, the Children of Ireland Awards 2003 (presented to children under 18) reflect and recognise the enormous contribution that children make to Irish society, whether it is through their efforts for the environment, local communities, or heroic intervention to assist others. President of Ireland, Mary McAleese is patron of National Children's Day and the Children of Ireland Awards and will host a reception for the award winners in Aras an Uachtarain on October 6, to honour their achievements. Absolutely anyone can nominate a child he/she feels deserves one of these special awards. Application forms are available in the Sunday World, in branches of VHI Healthcare and Royal & Sunalliance, in local pharmacies, and online at the Children of Ireland website on www.coia.ie.
