Hearts of Galway golf 'de Valera' to denounce Fianna Fail at GAAW event for Croi and Red Cross in Oughterard

THE GALWAY Alliance Against War will host what it calls the "True Fianna Fail Easter Commemoration" on Easter Sunday with the former taoiseach and president Eamon de Valera, as the principal speaker. The GAAW's event takes place at 1pm in Eyre Square to coincide with the Fianna Fail wreath laying ceremony at Liam M e l l o w s ' statue. The part of Eamon de Valera will be played by an actor and there will be a 'funeral ceremony' for the 'death' of Irish neutrality. "The Easter Rising was about achieving Irish independence and an independent Irish foreign policy," a spokesperson for the Galway Alliance said. "It is the height of hypocrisy for Fianna Fail to commemorate the men and women o f 1916 having betrayed what these people fought and died for with its support for the US and British war against Iraq." The group feels that de Valera's masterful reply to Winston Churchill's criticism of Irish neutrality is pertinent to t o d a y ' s situation. In this speech the
