SPORT Moycullen send Killanin out
Moycullen 0-10 Killanin 0-8
Paul Clancy was the inspirational figure for Moycullen as they produced the shock of the weekend, dumping the much fancied Killanin team out of the Tommy Varden Galway Senior Football Championship at Inverin on Saturday evening. Annaghdown back on track
Annaghdown 1-14. .Barna 0-11
After suffering a preliminary round defeat to Mountbellew/Moylough, champions Annaghdown made maximum use of the back door when they outclassed Barna in the first round game at Tuam Stadium. Barna were forced to field without the injured Eoin McDonagh, Davitt Geraghty and Davy Carr, and in the end their loss was severely felt. Few Barna players per formed with merit, but former Mayo star Pat Fallon stood above the rest. Annaghdown led by 0-7 to 0-4 at the break and they were always doing enough to win. Michael Newell was back with the class he showed last season, as was Morgan Duggan. Placed at centre back Duggan mopped up, while Ronan Leonard, Matt Duggan and the lively Damien Burke, were at all times controlling the game. Had Barna been at full strength, the result may have been different, but on the day Annaghdown sounded a warning that they are not ready torelinquishtheir county title yet. The only goal of the game came three minutes from the end and fittingly it was Michael Newell who had the honour. Newell finished a great move when he raced inside the Barna defence to collect a super long ball from St Jarlath's and county minor star.Niall Coleman. Annaghdown: P Mannion; V Small. Mountbellew prevail in tight contest
Mountbellew/ Moylough 1-12 A n Spideal 1-5

Keith Gibbon exquisitely looped the all-important goal over a helpless Padraic I .ally three minutes from time in an exciting opening game in Corofin on Sunday after noon to stretch Mountbellew/Moylough's lead to five. It was sufficient to put the game out of a brave An Spideal's reach. Securing Mountbellew/Moylough's place in the quarter-finals of the Galway Senior Football Championship, the goal put a lopsided appearance on the scoreboard, failing to reflect the nail-bitingly close encounter. Mountbellew/Moylough had blazed a trail into an eightpoint lead after 23 minutes. Deny O'Brien, Keith Gibbon, Eoin Wall and Conor Crehan all found the target as An Spideal, who were persevering with playing just five for wards, struggled to find room for a shot. Up to this point a rout seemed on the cards as a free flowing Mountbellew/Moylough carved open the porous An Spiddal defence. An Spideal eventually opened their account on 26 min utes when Michael O'Collerain converted a 40 yard free. Two minutes later Gearoid O'Loai snatched An Spideal's first point from play. Another high ball driven in the direc tion of Lorcain O'Collerain broke to one of An Spideal's three first-half substitutes, Nollaig O'Neachtain, who dived bravely to scramble the breaking ball into the net. Though unattractive, the goal brought the game to life and was a much-needed boost for An Spiddal going in at the break. A further point from the raiding wing back Tom O'Dowd in injury timereducedthe margin to two points. Mountbellew/Moylough continued to play with their foot off the pedal in response to An Spideal's revival in the early stages of the second half. In the opening four minutes An Spideal missed four scoring chances before Michael O'ColIerain and Donal O'Flaharta traded scores with Fergal Gavin and Joe Bergin to leave the score An Spideal 1-5 Mountbellew/Moylough 0-10 with 13 minutes left. Having survived a goal scare when Michael Higgins' opportunist flick over the head of Padraic Lally hit the post, arejuvenatedAn Spiddal fluffed three goal chances in eight minutes. Derry O'Brien's free taking suffered as Mountbellew/Moylough fired eight wides to leave the game hanging dangerously in the balance. Unfortunately for the Gaeltachl side Keith Gibbon's goal steadied the sinking Mountbellew/Moylough ship. Refinding their rhythm, they tacked on two more valuable points in injury i i n n . Corofin do just enough to survive
Corofin 0-9 Kilkerrin/Clonberne 0-7

Devane the man in Milltown
Milltown 1-11 Salthill 1-10
Unfancied Milltown are quickly developing a reputation as giant killers in this year's senior championship. Having won their first championship match in seven years when they overcame NUIG last weekend, Milltown dumped Salthill/Knocknacarra out of the championship in Corofin on Sunday afternoon. Jubilant scenes again erupted in Corofin as John Devane confidently tapped a matchwinning 20 yard free over the bar in injury time. It was heartbreaking for Salthill/Knocknacarra who. having trailed throughout, had managed to get their noses in front when Seamus Rabbitte was quickest to react lo a breaking hall in the square on 29 minutes. The robust corner forward's goal gave Salthill the narrowest of leads with time running out. However the lead was short lived. John Devane lofted a 60 yard free goal-ward, only to see it drop five yards short before bouncing over the bar to level the game entering injury time. Disappointment turned to despair for Salthill when substitute Padraic Bcgley ovcrcarricd on the 21 yard line, allowing John Devane to win the game for Milltown. Referee Michael Gibbons allowed lime for Salthill/Knocknacarra lo look for an equaliser, but they struggled to did not do enough to win. Over-reliant on Maurice Sheridan, who overcame childish taunting from the Milltown supporters lo score six frees from variety of angles, proved Salthill's downfall as only Seamus Rabbitte posed a threat from play in a rather toothless forward line. Milltown had four scorers on the day and were boosted by a great start. Within sec onds Liam Murphy sneaked inside Salthill full hack Barry Dooney to open Milllown's account with a point. Two minutes later Dooney was again caught napping as Alan Feerick found himself inside the Salthill cover and he made no mistake in dispatch ing the ball to the net from close range. Three minutes played and Milltown led M to no score. Unfortunately this historic victory for the north Galway club was marred by an injury to their county minor star Darren Mullalty
