National approach to waste management could end question of incinerator for Galway
BY UNA S I N N O T T A national waste m a n a g e m e n t body and just one incinerator to serve the entire country are a m o n g t h e proposals laid o u t by Forfas in a new r e p o r t which highlights t h e n a t i o n a l crisis in w a s t e d i s p o s a l . The national advisory board for i n c e n t i v e s t o c o m p e n s a t e c o m m u n i t i e s for h o s t i n g a w a s t e m a n a g e m e n t facility. The board also of recommends the regional waste establishment industry a n d technology reveals that the amount of rubbish produced inthe country increased by a massive 8 9 per cent b e t w e e n 1995 a n d 1998, w e l l a b o v e the a v e r a g e g r o w t h i n w a s t e p r o d u c t i o n in other European countries.
