Shantalla Residents
At a committee meeting pf the Shantalla Residents' As sociation complaints were voiced about the very bad bus service in the area. It was alleged that buses were not running to time and very often left before time, causing severe hardship to people who had no alter native transport. It was decided to seek a meeting with the local area manager of C.I.E. with a view to having the services improved. It was decided to write to the Western Health Board re doctors who use the Shan talla Clinic for medical card holders, as it was felt that this was a re-introduction of the old dispensary system, with all its humiliations. The view was also express ed that doctors were accept ing more patients than they could provide with a proper service and card holders were treated as second class patients. The ornamental tree won by Shantalla in the tidy Towns Competition and do nated by Major Price of Barna was presenyed to the Chairman, Mr. S. Deveney by Mr. T. Murray, the as sociation representative on the Tidy Towns Committee. The tree was won by Shantalla housing estate. It was agreed that it would be planted officially in the Autumn. The night's outing to Carraroe organised by the social committee proved very en joyable. Winners of spot prizes of return tickets to Dublin presented by C.I.E. were Mrs. Cotter, St. Enda's Road, and Kathleen Deveney McDara Road. It was agreed to change the date of the annual sports to Sunday, 17th June, to fit in with the Community Games.
