An Taoiseach opens Galway Advertiser's new headquarters

GALWAY ADVERTISER photographers Aengus McMahon and Mike Shaughnessy captured the atmosphere yesterday (Wednesday) when Taoiseach Bertie Ahem officially opened the newspaper's new headquarters at Eyre Square. Top right, the view as the entourage arrived to be met by a group of various protesters representing taxi drivers, antiglobalisation campaigners, anti-incineration groups, and anti-mobile phone mast groups; Ahem is greeted at the door by chairman Ronnie O'Gorman and Mayor Donal Lyons; However, Ahem's composure is taken by a passionate hug from a wellwisher; A welcome reel by Frankie Gavin is appreciated by the Taoiseach; Inside the building, the Taoiseach unveiled the commemorative plaque and his partner Celia Larkin was presented with a bouquet by Sally O'Gorman, youngest daughter of Ronnie O'Gorman; Advertiser editor Declan Varley shows Mr Ahem, Ms Larkin, Mayor Lyons and his wife Mrs Myra Lyons the latest publishing technology employed in the new offices; and bottom centre, this man could not resist peering at the proceedings through the front window .
