THE SHOPS are awash with bright colours, cool cot tons, and crisp linens. Summer is in the fashion stores (if not in the air!) and you can't miss it.
The look is feminine, fun, and often flirty with splashes of colour, embroidery detail, and floral patterns dominating today's hottest styles. The Eyre Square Centre unveiled its summer 2000 collection at a fashion show in the Great Southern Hotel recently. The event, which was in aid of the Galway Simon Community, featured the looks which are dominating the international catwalks and turning heads on the high streets. Colour abounds this season with hot pink, turquoise, fire-engine red, and tangerine making their presence felt strongly. This is a season for making a personal statement with all kinds of unexpected mixes. Prints run riot through the collections with a variety of paisley, floral, and animal prints emerging in the hottest summer shades. Ultra feminine looks, with lots of skin exposed, are big fashion news too. The emphasis is on the back with clingy tops, stretch fitted cardis, and bright skimpy t-shirts coming to the forefront. Pako, the' Eyre Square Centre shop, offered a lively and colourful approach to summer. There were lots of panelled vests, casual trouser and sweat tops, and shorts and t-shirts in cheery shades. Linen featured prominently in Penney's looks for summer. White linen trousers combined with a black full length coat to stunning effect while denim capri pants worked well with the latest t-shirts. A baby pink short sleeved top and calf skimming skirt with a front split from Galvia Designs was particularly fetching while a long black dramatic sleeveless gown, with a dan gerously high slit at the front, was stunning. A boa completed this elegant look.
