B u r k e R o a d , was s o l e m n l y elected king a n d during the forthcoming Clad d a g h Festival H i s M a j e s t y will b e c r o w n e d a n d will r u l e , w e h o p e , for a long reign, h a v i n g directly s u c c e e d e d t h e late K i n g M a r t i n Oliver. PROGRESS ON CALVARY Dear Sir, O n M o n d a y , 26th F e b r u ary, t h e Save Calvary C o m m i t t e e m e t senior officials of t h e D e p a r t m e n t of H e a l t h in D u b l i n , to discuss t h e closure of Calvary H o s p i t a l . W e w e r e told t h a t small hospitals m a k e for b a d m e d icine a n d large centralised u n i t s w o u l d give b e t t e r p a t ient care. M a t e r n i t y u n i t s in such large hospitals w o u l d b e able to give m u c h b e t t e r care t o t h e child i m m e d i a t e l y b e fore a n d after b i r t h . I n t h e case of m o t h e r s h a v ing to leave hospital early, b e c a u s e of o v e r c r o w d i n g , a h o m e h e l p service w o u l d n e e d to be provided. N o such service exists. W e w e r e accused of seek i n g preferential t r e a t m e n t for ' b e t t e r off' m o t h e r s w h i c h w c h o t l y d e n i e d stating t h a t 5 0 % I of all p a t i e n t s a t t e n d i n g C a l - I v a r y H o s p i t a l are entitled t o social welfare benefits.
